Anthony Cormier was raised and has lived in New Hampshire for most of his life. Fine food, wine and beer have been part of that life from the age of 15 where he started his restaurant career. With a hiatus to hike the Appalachian Trail in 2002, after graduating from high school, he found his way back into the restaurant business. From the small bakery where he started, Anthony moved onwards through the restaurant world while attending Plymouth State University and attaining a BFA in Fine Arts as a sculpture major. After marrying his long time love, Casey, he and his new wife settled in Stratham, NH. Upon moving to the seacoast, Anthony joined the Portsmouth Brewery in August of 2010.

Anthony's other hobbies include ice climbing, rock climbing, fly fishing and skiing. Winter can never come soon enough for this New England native but spring is always a welcome sight.

Ben Bilodeau, Assistant Manager

Ben was born and raised in Deerfield, New Hampshire. His fascination with food began at an early age: with both parents working there was plenty of time spent under the supervision/tutelage of a very close neighbor and family friend who seemingly spent all of her time in the kitchen providing for not only her family but also the community around her.

After venturing west to attend the University of Montana, majoring in fly fishing and skiing, Ben returned to the Granite State and found himself working a number of restaurant jobs to pay the bills. It was during this time that he expanded on his knowledge of food, beverage, and hospitality management.

Ben started working for the Brewery in 2003 as a line cook and has worn many hats since, from chef to bartender. Currently holding the title of Assistant Manager, he oversees a staff of 30.

Previously, he was a full-time faculty member at the McIntosh Atlantic Culinary Academy where he was the lead instructor in American Regional Cuisine.

His work has taken him around the world, including Paris, Vienna and even on a 5-star cruise ship across the Pacific.

Tod Mott, Head Brewer

 alt="Tod Mott, Head Brewer"
 width="127"
 height="128" />

Tod Mott arrived at the Portsmouth Brewery in the fall of 2003, at same time the Red Sox signed Curt Schilling and began their run to their first World Series title in 86 years. Coincidence? We think not.

After earning a Master's Degree in ceramics, Tod began his long career in brewing with a homebrew kit given to him by his wife. His professional career began in 1990 with an apprenticeship at Catamount Brewing in Vermont, followed by stints as Head Brewer at Harpoon, Commonwealth, Back Bay Brewing, Quincy Ships (where he was a founding partner) and, most recently, the Tap in Haverhill, where he designed and set up the brewing system.

A multiple GABF gold medal winner, Tod has continued his winning ways since his arrival in Portsmouth, brewing a wide range of exceptional beers, including his much lauded Kate the Great Russian Imperial Stout. He is also a knowledgable and enthusiastic foodie whose input on the food and wine menus at the Brewery is highly prized.

When the time came to pick a college and career, Kieran wanted Hotel & Restaurant Management. His parents talked him out of it, so he went to college in New York City pursuing a degree in Accounting. After working in New York for a few years, he decided to search for greener pastures and moved north to New Hampshire in 1988. Kieran's first restaurant job was as part time dishwasher for a nice Italian restaurant in Peabody, Massachusetts. Then, after being laid off from his full-time job, he began waiting tables. Learning the food and beverage side of a hotel, he held many positions. Wanting to learn more about different aspects of the industry, he managed small venues, a fast food restaurant and then finally arrived at the Portsmouth Brewery in 2005.

Kieran's free time is usually consumed by his two dogs Mo and Lizzy. Both are shelter rescue dogs, one of them a Wiemaraner, which requires complete and undivided attention. The rest of his free time is spent looking for another Weim to rescue!

Joanne's connection to the Portsmouth Brewery goes back to early 1991, when she was the Creative Director of the small advertising firm hired to design the logo and initial advertising for the yet-to-be-opened Brewery. She joined the Brewery staff full-time in 1993 and has been the creative force behind the look and feel of both the Portsmouth Brewery and Smuttyose Brewing Company. She is co-owner of both companies with her longtime partner, Peter Egelston.

 width="128"
 height="99" />

Peter grew up in southern California but did not remain there long. Dropping out after a year at UC Berkeley, he found his way to New York in 1978 where he earned a degree in Spanish Literature at NYU. Upon graduation, he quit his job as a hotel doorman and took a more "dignified" position - at one third the pay - teaching English as a Second Language. He later found a permanent position teaching in a large public high school in Brooklyn. In 1986, his sister Janet passed through town and talked him into joining her in Massachusetts where they and two other partners would open what is now the oldest brewpub in the northeast: the Northampton Brewery, where Peter served as head brewer until 1991.

That year, they opened the Portsmouth Brewery, the Granite State's first brewpub. In 1993, he attended the auction of the bankrupt Frank Jones Brewing Company. Not intending to bid on anything that day, he ended up purchasing the brewery that was to become Smuttynose. Peter and his sister remained business partners until 2000. She is now sole owner of the Northampton Brewery, and he, with his partner Joanne, is proprietor of Smuttynose and the Portsmouth Brewery.

Today, Peter divides his time among the Portsmouth Brewery, Smuttynose Brewing and various civic and charitable activities. Like the elusive yeti, Peter is notoriously hard to track down. And like the yeti, some have come to wonder if he really exists.
