Tyler Jones, Assistant Brewer
A 15th generation New Hampshire native, Tyler joined the Brewery staff in 2007. He studied Chemical Engineering at UNH and started making beer on a home brewing system that he found in his college apartment's coat closet. (And yes he still has it!) After Graduating in 2004 and wanting to get out from behind a lab bench for a while, he took a job selling filter presses, filter plates and filter cloth for Micronics, a local Portsmouth company. After a year of alternating a week on the road and a week in the office, Tyler became sick of airports and the walls of his cubicle. He decided to attend the University of California at Davis and get his Master Brewer's Certificate in 2006 so he could turn his love of homebrewing into a career.
After UC Davis he came back east looking for a brewing job. He interviewed at Smuttynose and the Portsmouth Brewery, but nothing was available, so he took a position at Mercury Brewing Co. in Ipswich, Massachusetts, makers of Ipswich and Stone-Cat ales. He kept in touch with Tod Mott, however, who emailed him one day looking for an extra set of hands brewing the following day. This ended up being a working interview, and at the end of the day Tyler found out that Tod's current assistant was looking to move on. Tyler has been here, and loving it, ever since.
